How StarChase Works

The StarChase system is made of a commercial off the shelf (COTS) oriented solution. It’s comprised of a tracking projectile with a miniaturized GPS receiver, radio transmitter, power supply and a launcher which can be hand-held or mounted on a police car. The StarChase proof-of-concept was integrated at Science Applications International Corporation’s (SAIC) Public Safety Integration Center (PSIC) in McLean, Virginia.
Accurate
Once the fleeing suspect’s car has been tagged, its exact position is transmitted via wireless modem, allowing the dispatch center to view the suspect vehicle in real-time. Through efficient use of technology, a high-speed chase has been replaced with an interdiction strategy.
Adaptable
This platform is a heavily-encrypted, scalable Web-based solution that requires no special hardware. StarChase is compatible with existing CAD and AVL systems and is also court-admissible and preserves the chain of evidence.
Ending chases, not lives. The StarChase solution is consistent with the movement in the law enforcement community toward non-lethal technologies that are effective, efficient, and reduce a municipality’s exposure to liability.
